little foot (like in land before time)

August 8, 2011

hola,
without further adieu, here's an update on the foot. i got in contact with a guy who's in charge of missionary medical problems. i called him, he covers 12 missions and doesn't live close by. i was a little concerned about that only because he never actually saw the foot but still prescribed me medicine for it. so he ordered that for me and i picked it up down the street at walgreens. so i've been on them for about a week and have about a week's worth left of it to take. the foot's gotten a lot better. the swelling has gone down almost completely and the color has reduced to only immediately around the cut instead of creeping up the whole foot. still limping a little, still wearing elder ploeger's shoes because mine are too narrow to slide on. but definitely improving. i'm supposed to call the guy back tomorrow to let him know how the progress is going. and there are two podiatrists in the ward (there are a ton of doctors and med students out here in michigan) and they said the medicine he gave me is good. so things are going good with that. looks like i can keep the foot.

we had some lessons with a guy who is convinced he's an Israelite. he says by blood, all black people are from the tribe of Judah and that the Jews have always been black. and with this he says only those who are literal descendants of Israel can be saved. unfortunately he said i probably don't qualify. anyways, we showed him some scripture explaining how we are adopted into the covenant when we embrace the gospel, meaty stuff like that. he wasn't buying it. it was on the verge of a bible bash, but we were able to stay away from that and testify and the spirit was able to come into the lesson. his big concern is he wants us to show him in the bible where it references the book of Mormon (we did, Ezekiel 37) and where it talks about other things. he wants the proof, or rather the miracle before the faith. we answered some of his questions so he knew that our message doesn't conflict with the bible. but we testified of the power of the book of Mormon and prayer and if he sincerely asks God to help him find the truth and puts the effort in sincerely then he'll come to know these things as well. no baptismal date or anything like that yet, but it was progress. he said give me a week to get into the book of Mormon and we'll try this again. you find some interesting ideas out here, but the spirit and true doctrine understood have real power to help someone overcome any wall that is in place.

i was on an exchange in another area, but when i was gone elder p and another missionary tracted into a sweet family. i guess they're going through some difficult times. they went over the restoration and the book of Mormon and left commitments with them to read and pray to prepare for when we come back. the wife basically said to her husband "these men are sent from god, they've got exactly what you need right now in your life. you haven't been happy ever since....and this is what god's giving you to get back on your feet." we're seeing them tomorrow night so i'm excited because they sound sweet.

lots of awesome things happening every day, there's nothing sweeter than sharing the gospel with others and watching it bring them closer to God. gotta go but i do owe sean and arin a quick shout out as requested (yes i do take requests). but congrats on the big day coming up, it's gotta be crazy right about now, i'll write you back asap. well family, love you guys lots, have a great week. talk to you next week, we're going to the temple next week so i'll be writing you back on thurs instead of mon just as a headsup

love,
elder lamb
