golfing and baptizing, keeping busy

Sept. 24, 2012

Hey! Sorry for the late letter today, we just got back from golfing with President Holmes. He called us up this afternoon and asked if we wanted to go with him and his son who had half day at school. Elder Davis is pretty good, his dad was pro for a little bit. President and his son were good too. The only other time I've played was with that one game Sean and I played in Canada a few years back. So I wasn't so good. But it was a really fun day. Not typical, President hadn't taken missionaries out before, so golfing isn't part of the assistant package. It was a nice occasion today.

In other exciting news, yesterday we had a baptism! Gian-Carlo (sounds like john) entered the waters of baptism last night, it was an awesome program. he's the coolest guy. they had found him a little before i came to the area so i wasn't here for all of the teaching progress. it's a pretty cool story of how they found him, there was a missionary in the area for the day on an exchange and he said they needed to knock on houses with red bricks. the first one they found was gian's, and instantly he was awesome. was drawn to the joseph smith story instantly. he got hit with some anti and overcame it too. just a really good guy. earlier last week we told him "gian, you're ready for baptism". his response was "i know, i've been ready for a while, i was just waiting for you guys to come knock on my door." he's elect. and his wife and two kids have come to church with him every week and love church too, it's just been hard to get everyone together for lessons because of work schedules. so just gian was baptized last night, but hopefully soon the rest of the family will join them. he's already looking forward to baptizing them when it happens.

i'm out of time. but i'm having a blast out here. it's a lot of fun. it's a tender mercy to be finishing the mission this way for the next couple months.

love you guys. god is good. if you need a reminder, just ask him to give you one. have a great week.

ps, happy be-lated rosh hashanah. if anyone's interested, this is a SWEET article from the ensign. you'll never look at a rosh hashanah again. it should be renamed Book of Mormon Day and should be celebrated by latter-day saints.https://www.lds.org/ensign/2000/01/the-golden-plates-and-the-feast-of-trumpets?lang=eng&query=golden+plates+trumpets
